How It Works

TCE is not based solely on the Internet. There are many reasons:

For over 20 years TCE has provided a most sincere, honest and personal service.

To ensure the quality of our membership, TCE will require each member to provide us with their true identity (for internal use only), not just their e-mail address. We will communicate with each inquirer and member by U.S. mail initially and, for members,  occasionally thereafter. New members must fill out their Profile Page (bios and details on travel habits and preferences) and join with an imprinted check or a credit card in his/her name. Joining on the Internet is not yet permitted. Our central office in Long Island, NY, will handle members' files, provide assistance to members when needed, process Profile requests, etc.

In order  to ensure the sincerity of our members, TCE does not offer a free or trial service. We tested a free trial membership many years ago and found that the quality of the people who joined on that basis was often so poor that we discontinued the concept. Our fees are not the lowest either because TCE's main goal is not just to expand the membership, but rather to provide dependable service to our paying members.

Currently, TCE members receive other members' listings every other month then select the ones that sound interesting to them. Since the listings are identified by member ID, not by name or address, they would then request a copy of those potential travel partners' Profile Pages (which provide more detailed information about them including name and address and/or phone and/or e-mail address, picture if submitted) through the TCE office - for $2 each, after 1 free Profile every month. Members then can contact each other directly. (The TCE office internally keeps track of these requests in case of any suspicion or mal-intention. This tracking is NOT to inform members who requested their Profile Page.) Our unique Profile Page and method has helped us avoid major problems for over 19 years!

Members who find each other compatible may visit each other or have short trips together to test compatibility before planning longer trips, such as a 3-week trip in Europe or 3 months going around the world.

Important Keys to Success in Finding a Compatible Companion

When looking for a companion, whether for a lifetime or for travel, you need to know yourself first. Examine what kind of a person you are: what is really important to you and what you can compromise on for the benefit of sharing companionship. Looks, age, geographical area seem to be the major obstacles for some members. Here is one of our observations:

Many TCE members who traveled well together were often from different states, sometimes even from opposite coasts. You, too, can be as successful in finding a compatible companion. Do not limit yourself by looking only for a partner in your immediate geographical area. Reach out to any member who shares some of your travel interests and goals. It is often better to really get to know each other through correspondence and phone conversations prior to actually meeting in person. Many TCE members have frequent flyer miles and may be willing to use them to meet you in your hometown or at a point somewhere in-between to share a weekend exploring a city or locale of interest to both of you. Some members enjoy hosting out-of-towners and also enjoy visiting new places when hosted by local members. Some members may be looking to find their dream place to reside and would like to have some help from locals.

Planning Trips Together

Be honest about yourself and discuss important details: money matters (your travel budget and  how everyday expenses are settled), intimacy, privacy, together and separate times, who does the driving, how to resolve unforeseen conflicts, etc. Get to know each other as much as possible. Try day, weekend or shorter trips together before making non-refundable deposits for longer travels. Consider cancellation penalties before booking.
